Love the skin you are in: skincare and beauty tips for children

Ulta Beauty
Skincare and beauty tips

I have an 11-year-old who just had a birthday on January 1o, and for about 8 months to a year, she has been heavily into skincare and asking for beauty tips for her delicate skin. It first began with me telling her to take care of her skin by cleaning and moisturizing it daily. She listened, and started using all of my products. So, every time something of mine went missing, I knew to check with her, and most always, they were in her bathroom or bedroom. Finally, I told here I would take her to purchase her own skincare products that are more suitable for her young skin. She eventually started watching YouTube, following various influencers and taking notes on some of the skincare products they felt were must-haves. By the Summer 2023, she wanted [look] in Ulta Beauty and show me things she may want for Christmas in December and her Birthday in January. By Fall 2023, she had her list together. I admit, some of the products were very expensive, and not something I cared to purchase. I did manage to browse the internet and get everything on her list by ordering from Amazon. The brands she wanted were less expensive than buying exclusively at Ulta Beauty. I did find a sample skincare kit from Ulta Beauty which included cleansers, moisturizers, and so much more, and I can brag a bit and say she was very satisfied with that purchase.

Now, let's talk about how 10 and 11-year-olds are really into skincare! I found out when my daughter's friend was having a birthday party and her mom sent out a list to Amazon. Her wishlist just so happened to have some of the same products my daughter asked for a few weeks earlier. Fast forward to when my daughter had a sleepover, and I saw them actually have a pre-bedtime, skincare, pamper session. I thought it was too cute, but too much at such a young age, and even had a conversation with my the friend's mom about how shocked I was to see them so into their skincare as much as they were. We talked about not being into things like that at such a young age, but also agreed that there was nothing really wrong with it. Fast-forward to yet another sleepover, and, yep, you guessed it, an entire pre-bedtime, skincare, pamper session.

Some of their popular products seem to be Bubble and Drunk Elephant, but the less expensive of the two is Bubble. Am I happy my daughter took heed to what I said about taking care of her skin? Yes! But, what I am not happy about are the expensive products she needs and wants to ensure her skin is well taken care of. We do occasionally go to places like Ross and Burlington to buy scrubs, cleansers, oils and moisturizers, which are way less expensive than Ulta Beauty and Amazon, but we go there because that is where I get most of my products for a fraction of the cost, and they work wonderful for what I need.

Skin and beauty-care products do not have to be expensive to work. As long as you know your skin type and go through trial and error to figure out what works and doesn't work for you, that is all that matters. I am a label reader and look at what ingredients are in the products I ingest when it comes to the food I eat, as well as what I use on my skin and hair, so I am confident in the products my young daughter uses for her skin. As far as loving the skin you are in, it can be as simple as washing with a warm or hot towel and plain water and using an oil like the Jasmine oil I buy from Ross.
